About Us

CHESLA's Mission:

To expand higher educational opportunities for students in or from the State of Connecticut by offering cost-effective alternative financing and scholarship programs.

CHESLA's Vision:

To become a resource for students as they plan for their college education, not only by providing financing, but by providing information and tools for students to make informed decisions; to enhance the competitiveness of Connecticut institutions of higher education by providing additional grant and financing options; to encourage interest in higher education to help the state meet its workforce needs.

Committed to helping students meet their educational goals.

CHESLA was created by the state of Connecticut in 1982 to help students and families finance the cost of higher education by reducing the financial burden of borrowing.

CHESLA serves as an alternative source of loan funds for students who:

  • do not qualify for need-based loans,
  • need to borrow more than the maximum amounts provided by other loan programs, or
  • seek the type of loan options and high quality service provided by alternative state loan programs
